So I am looking to get a second sub or the oppo 93 blu-ray player and can't decide which to get. I know the second sub will help expand my sweet spot but I am just curious if the oppo will be that much better. Any thoughts on either would be great. Thanks

Which bluray player do you have now?

Panasonic dmp-bd110

I will review this player very soon.

Depending on the placement of a second subwoofer, it wouldn't necessarily expand the sweet spot, if you're looking to widen the range of sitting positions.  Since subwoofers are usually set for 80 Hz and below, the sound is omnidirectional.  That is, no matter where you place it, the sound has no directionality but reinforces the sound of the notes above its range.  Still, two subs can enhance the deepness of the sound (depending on the subs) and sometimes the size of the sound.  Just be careful about the placement, though (make it symmetrical), or they can actually muddy one another up.

The Oppo appears to be a great BD player.  Our reader StevePro swears by his new one.

So John right now my sub is in front left corner of room which gives the right side of my couch more bass than left side of couch. If I move sube to right front then I get the opposite on my couch meaning the left side sounds better. So I was thinking having to subs on each side of tv it will even the sound. Am I right thinking this way and if not how would I know. I really don't want things to sound worse.

If placing the sub front left makes you hear it on the front left and the same for placing it on the front right, I suspect there is something wrong with the crossover point you're using.  You should definitely NOT be hearing the sub on the left or the right.  It should be neutral.  You should hear equal bass left or right or center or rear, depending on the output of the bass from the source, from the DVD, BD, or broadcast.  That is, unless the crossover point is too high.  Be sure the sub is crossed over at 80 Hz or below (check the switch or knob on the rear of the sub) and that the receiver is matched to that point (check in the receiver's on-screen setup menu).  Otherwise, you probably will hear the subwoofer itself wherever its placed.

I guess I don't really know how to explain what is happening. I can't pinpoint the sub, it is just one side of the couch has more bass than the other. Right now my sub is in front left of the room, so my right side of couch has very good bass and left side of couch has very little. I have tried several crossover points with no change. If I put the sub in front right of room the left side of couch has very good bass . My room has really bad acoustics I am finding for bass. I don't know if this makes sense at all, very hard for me to explain what is happening.

My sub is set at 80HZ and the directionality is very neutral.  Since I have installed the Oppo, I have noticed a signifigant improvement in tightness and clarity out of my sub; generally less booming and more detail.  I'm very pleased overall.  If you get the Oppo, use the 2 hdmi method to seperate the audio and video signals. You will be amazed.

btw: Oppo's customer service is incredible.  The original remote did not work.  I e-mailed them and received a replacement in 2 days no questions asked.  They didn't evan ask for the old one to be returned.

So, if the sub is on the right side of your room, you hear too much bass from the left side of the room and vice versa?  Weird.  I have no idea.  The "sound" of a subwoofer should only be coming from where the source material dictates.  Are you telling us that, say, in an action movie, if there is an explosion from the right side of the room, in your setup the explosion's impact appears to come from the left side, the opposite side?  That is odd.  I wonder if your speakers are in phase.  Try reversing the leads (l/r) to one of the main l/r speakers.  Is the subwoofer currently set up using a single RCA cable from the receiver's subwoofer output? (I'm assuming you are using a receiver and 5.1 or 7.1 speakers in a surround system.)

John

Yeah for the most part that is right. But the bass does sound like it is coming from the source (tv). It's just one side of room has more volume, it is pretty crazy you can sit 4 feet to the left and the volume of bass can drop off pretty big. I will check the phase when I get more time. And yes I am using 1 cable for lfe line in, and it is an onkyo 705. I double checked my lfe is set at 80hz

You will always have more bass in certain parts of a room than others.  Bass is very difficult to control, even with an equalizer.  My own bass output rises at the four corners of the room.  If I sit in the middle of the 7.1 speakers, I have the bass equalized via a sound meter to exactly the volume of the midrange (at least at the peak of the bass frequency output).  But three feet left or right of the center seating position, and the bass volume increases by as much as five to ten decibels.  However, this bass increase does NOT affect the directionality of the bass sound.  The bass still appears to be coming from the appropriate left, right, center, or rear of the room.  It's just louder depending on the listening position.

Just ran through audyssey on receiver and all is good now with bass. Thanks for all the help. Looks like I may be going for the oppo.

Good choice on the Oppo. It reads like you have less than desirable room acoustics to me, not sure a 2nd sub would matter.

Just ordered the Oppo. Now the fun part of waiting for it.

It is a really great player. Only thing not top notch is the remote which basically is the norm on most systems.

Again, use the 2 hdmi setup option.  Make sure hdmi 1 from the Oppo goes to the tv to take advantage of the upscaler/processer on dvd's.  The audio to your receiver can go from  Oppo hdmi 2 or 3.  The onscreen setup is very logical; much easier than the setup on my Denon receiver which was a nightmare.

The remote.  I've already commented on that.  My Logitec Harmony works better.  Enjoy.
