Hi guys, I'm a big sci-fi and nasa nut so I'm on the look for gems I haven't seen. Thinking out of the box is allowed. I like titles:

  • Star Crash
  • Moon
  • 2001: A Space Odyssey
  • Outland
  • Alien

Give me some recommendations =)

Henning... have you ever seen that conspiracy-suspence film from 1978 - CAPRICORN ONE - ?

Despite a few flaws in the script, it's actually pretty good, as long as you don't really believe in the scenario behind the story (unbelievable). I saw it a long time ago on cable TV.

The Blu-ray edition (UK) is region-free and supposedly a clean transfer (unlike the DVD here in the USA, according to Amazon reviews.

Capricorn One Blu-ray (UK)

A few random thoughts:

Silent Running, This Island Earth.  I don't think either are on BD in the US.  When World's Collide, the emerging technology of the time in this film is very interesting.  There was a short lived Silent Running-like tv series in the 70's in which a starship with multiple enviornmental pods was awakened.  Each pod evolved differently, some successfully some not so much. I can't remember the name of the series but I would love to get it if it is available (which it probably isn't).

Masters of Science Fiction, a short lived series a few years ago, it's just ok except for The Discarded which is outstanding. Their web site is still up.

I remember Capricon One. I saw it back in the day.  I think I was the only one in the theatre.

Just got Silent Running on Blu-ray from Masters of Cinema. Yes, I have watched Capricorn One and while I found it thrilling I hate the fact it plays on the conspiracy theorists crazy ideas.

Thanks for the suggestions and keep them coming.

I just chercked again on Silent Running.  No BD at least on Amazon US BUT I can  stream it through Amazon Prime for $0.00.

It is a rather cool UK edition:

There's some great TV sci fi, though you might be aware of most of it.

Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicles, series 1 and 2 and Firefly are shows that have been discontinued but are cheap on blu ray and definately worth a purchase.

Battlestar Galactica - the recent one - is again cheap on blu ray and absolutely awesome.

Re movies, Android, Dark Star and Trancers are 3 old but great low budget films.

Enjoy.

Have you seen the movie Cargo? You may like that one. There's also another one that I can't remember the name at the moment...I'll write back.

Found it. It's called Sunshine (2007).

I have not seen Cargo but I have heard of it.  Recently,  I've been slogging through the remastered sd set of "Farscape, The Complete Series" which I picked up at a good price.   It is very well done; the video is sharp  even in overscan (Seasons 1-3 are in standard format, Season 4 is in 16:9) and the 5.1 sound is as good as it gets for an sd through the Oppo. I had forgotten about the humerous side of the series "he can't even program a vcr," (ok so it's a bit dated) "I'm Butch and this is Sundance." Highly recommended.

"Sunshine" was one of the first BDs I bought.  Good flick.

Yes, Sunshine is great. What is Cargo? New or old?
