This movie is almost painful for me to watch as Jar Jar still makes me cringe BUT morbid curiosity made me want to see how this movie would look like when transferred from 2D to 3D as others have failed. Well, for the most part, the 3D effect is barely noticeable for almost the whole movie. It is very weak to say the least. In a few scenes you notice it more than others but overall it basically looks the same. I hoped that George Lucas would really add some Wow factor for this especially in the space scenes or the podrace scene but nah. It's average 3D at best.

I had read somewhere before that they were really going for a quality 3D transfer so it is not disappointing like some previous 2D to 3D efforts but if that is true the results don't show it. Even the 10 yr old I went with said the movie looked the same.

They had some 3D previews before the movie and the difference was night and day in terms of the 3D effect. Maybe that's what did this movie in.

Interesting. The big test for 2D to 3D conversion must be TITANIC 3D. If James Cameron can't do it properly I'm not sure that it can be done.

What's amazing is the popularity the franchise still holds over the average movie consumer.  It did manage to land in the top 5 the weekend it came out.  For me, I will not subject myself or give more money to the Lucas Empire.  I may still pick-up all the movies on Blu-ray, once they wind up in the $8.00 bin at Best Buy.  Otherwise, I feel I've contributed enough to Lucas and his legacy, it isn't like he needs the money, you know.
