If you're a "Sons of Anarchy" fan and were talking smack about the app (though, naturally, quiet enough so none of the biker baddies could hear), you probably want to download the upgrade:
LOS ANGELES, CA (SEPT. 10, 2012) – FX and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, announced today the new and improved "Sons of Anarchy" app. The all new app combines the best features from the legacy SOA app and the SOA Gear app creating an immersive, interactive experience with exclusive features, e-commerce and a feature rich, virtual view of the SOA clubhouse!
With the Sons of Anarchy app, now available at the App Store and Google Play, fans can sync in real time with the show or use the Season 4 Blu-ray Disc to shop for authentic merchandise they see on screen or licensed goods. In addition, fans can connect over social networks within the app, explore added features including alternate scenes, character bios, production stills, storyboards, show facts and trivia and much more. New features and merchandise will be added weekly as the new season progresses following the broadcast premiere on September 11 on FX at 10PM.
"Sons of Anarchy fans are the most passionate and vocal fans out there,” said creator Kurt Sutter. “This app gives them everything they've been asking for…amazing hi-def graphics, new Season 5 content, features from previous seasons and access to all our cool SOA merch. And it's free, bitches."
Starring Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman and Golden Globe Award winner Katey Sagal, "Sons of Anarchy" is the highest-rated series ever on FX. The premiere episode of season four (9/6/11) was the most-watched program in FX history, with 6.5 million Total Viewers.
“We are excited to offer SOA fans a place where they can not only engage further with the show but also find the merchandise they want in an interactive and entertaining environment,” added Eric Schrier, Head of Series Development, FX and Executive Vice President of FX Productions.
The most popular items with fans are the SAMCRO Hoodie ($49.95), Lois Hill Saddle Ring ($188) worn by Gemma (Katey Sagal) and the KD 2120 Sunglasses ($10) worn by Jax (Charlie Hunnam). The SOA app has been downloaded more than 425,000 times since its release.
“Our commerce platform was purposefully built to serve the entertainment industry and their viewers across all platforms where content is consumed,” said Mike Fitzsimmons, Delivery Agent CEO. “We’re thrilled to be a second year partner, enabling 'Sons of Anarchy' fans to use their second screen device to shop the products they see as they see them on screen.”
Echoing the excitement, Defy Agency Creative Director Toby Chi stated, “The SOA app is engineered with an innovative technology, called ‘Perspective,’ that transports the users to the world of SOA with an immersive environment and contains back-stories of the characters and club history, as well as bonus production materials such as deleted scenes and action storyboards.”
Magic Ruby President and CEO, Tom Engdahl continued, "'Sons of Anarchy' is a tremendous franchise. Our mission in developing this app was to create a second screen experience as compelling as the series to attract and engage both new viewers and avid fans. This is the second app we’ve been privileged to create for SOA and with it, have developed and provided new features to deepen the viewer experience.”
"Sons of Anarchy" was created by Kurt Sutter, who also serves as Executive Producer along with John Linson, Art Linson and Paris Barclay. The series is produced by FX Productions and Fox 21.
