While this summer's blockbuster hits haven't seen the box office results of last year's The Dark Knight, Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has already jumped passed the $300 million mark with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince expected to follow suite. In addition to these two hits, there have been more than enough successful films to keep retailers smiling when the DVD and Blu-Ray holiday season begins.
20th Century Fox plans to release X-Men Origins: Wolverine on September 15, with more details expected next week. Paramount has nailed down a September 29 release date for DreamWorks Studio's Monsters vs. Aliens, while J.J. Abram's Star Trek will hit shelves on November 17.
Although the rest of the holiday releases haven't been given a solid date, retailers expect to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen hitting shelves in October, Disney's Up in November, and Half-Blood Prince, The Hangover, and Terminator: Salvation in December. However, many of these titles have already been bouncing around the calendar. For example, The Hangover started with an estimated release of September but was later pushed back to October, and now, Warner Brothers is expected to hold off the release until December. Hopefully studios will work out these dates soon so that retailers can begin planning out their marketing strategies and anxious fans can start forming their holiday wish-lists.
