New DREDD 3D 30-Second Trailer Released

DREDD 3D will be released in theaters on Friday, September 21, 2012. To whet your appetite for the action movie, based on the comic strip character Judge Dredd, LionsGate has released another trailer, this one a 30-second TV spot.

Dredd takes place in a futuristic society where criminals rule the chaotic streets. To bring some order to this chaos are urban cops called judges, who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner.

Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge - a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of "Slo-Mo" experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

Writer Alex Garland and director Pete Travis bring DREDD 3D to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film.  Filmed in 3D with slow motion photography sequences, the film returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip, which first appeared in the UK magazine 2000 AD.

There was another movie about the comic book character Judge Dredd, released in 1995, starring Sylvester Stallone. The 2012 version, while based on the same comic strip, appears to be much closer to the original material.
