Oscar winner A SEPARATION comes to Blu-ray and DVD August 21
Culver City, CA (June 25, 2012) — "A Separation," one of the most honored films of the past year, taking home the Academy Award, Golden Globe, and Independent Spirit Award for Best Foreign Language film, will be released by Sony Pictures Classics and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on Blu-ray and DVD August 21st. "A Separation" was written, directed and produced by Asghar Farhadi, who was also Oscar-nominated for his screenplay. Special features will include commentary with Farhadi, as well as two behind-the-scenes featurettes: An Evening with Asghar Farhadi and Birth of a Director.
Farhadi calls "A Separation" a detective story without any detectives. The audience is the one in charge of solving the puzzle. Universally acclaimed, the film also won awards from the National Board of Review, New York Film Critics Circle, Berlin International Film Festival, Frances César Awards and the Fajr Film Festival.
Synopsis:
Set in contemporary Iran, "A Separation" is a compelling drama about the dissolution of a marriage. Simin wants to leave Iran with her husband Nader and daughter Termeh and sues for divorce when Nader refuses to leave behind his Alzheimer-suffering father. Her request having failed, Simin returns to her parents home but Termeh decides to stay with Nader.
When Nader hires a young woman to assist with his father in his wifes absence, he hopes that his life will return to a normal state. However, when he discovers that the new maid has been lying to him, he realizes that there is more on the line than just his marriage.
